The J-word

I tell you, all those who stand before others and say they believe in me, I, the Son of Man, will say before the angels of God that they belong to me. Luke 12:8 (more…)

Poster Child for Post-Modernism

“Gene Veith, dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Concordia University, tells of a young man who claimed to be a Christian and professed belief in Christ and love for the Bible, but also believed in reincarnation. His pastor confronted this belief in reincarnation by directing the young man to Hebrews 9:27. The text was read: “It is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment.” The young man looked back at his pastor and replied, “Well, that’s your interpretation.” ” (more…)

fragile as wildflowers

“These people are nothing but grass,
   their love fragile as wildflowers.
The grass withers, the wildflowers fade,
if God so much as puffs on them.
Aren’t these people just so much grass?
True, the grass withers and the wildflowers fade,
but our God’s Word stands firm and forever.”

“Respect your father and mother, and you will live a long and successful life in the land I am giving you.” Deut 5:16 (Contemporary English Version)

If you are faced with a fifth commandment issue and decide that, in your very unique situation, you are justified in disobeying mom and dad then be prepared for the consequences. Even if you are 100% correct. Even if angels in heaven are turning cartwheels because you made such a brave decision. There will be consequences. Probably negative. (more…)

The Generation Gap – Part 2

“Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD your God has commanded you, that your days may be long, and that it may be well with you in the land which the LORD your God is giving you.” Deut 5:16 (NKJV)

Since there is a hierarchy to the Ten Commandments, Christians are obligated to obey God’s Law above all else. When it comes to Deut 5:16, Christian teens and young adults sometimes look for a spiritual reason to disregard their parents’ authority. (more…)

The Generation Gap – Part 1

“Respect your father and mother—God, your God, commands it! You’ll have a long life; the land that God is giving you will treat you well.” Deut 5:16 (The Message)

This is a tough one for a lot of young people. We’re not just talking about the selfish me-ism of teen culture. I have a curfew, how unfair. Dad won’t let me borrow the car, what a jerk! Blah, blah, blah. For Christians who are living under the authority of agnostic/atheistic parents, Deut 5:16 can seem impossible. Even in Christian homes, people make poor decisions. Mom and dad are just as selfish and sinful as the rest of humanity. (more…)
